Community Based Medical College
The Community Health Foundation Bangladesh was established in 1994 by thirty philanthropists from various professions under the leadership of Dr. AIM Mafakhkharul Islam. He believed that "the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step", and he took this saying to heart.
The main objective of this foundation is to improve the health care service infrastructure in Bangladesh through community participation. This foundation has set up various medical camps, mobile medical camps and permanent clinics for the patients who are unable to visit hospitals due to financial constraints. The foundation also provides free treatment for those who cannot afford any kind of treatment but have serious diseases like cancer, tuberculosis and kidney failure etc.
The Community Health Foundation Bangladesh works on two basic principles: firstly, all patients should be treated equally irrespective of their socio-economic status; secondly, there should be no discrimination between rich and poor patients regarding treatment facilities.
In order to achieve its goal, this foundation is working tirelessly day and night under the supervision of its founder Dr AIM Mafakhkharul Islam who was an eminent physician and social worker whose death left a vacuum in his wake that cannot be filled easily by anyone else.
The Community-Based Medical College of Bangladesh is an academic enterprise at the Community Health Foundation. The college's goal is to contribute modestly within the parameters of health and science as a whole, thereby achieving meaningful, sustainable quality of life improvements for its students, faculty and staff as well as for the surrounding community.
The college was established in 2016 with the mission to create a community based medical college that would be able to respond to the growing demand for high quality healthcare services by providing affordable medical education to underserved communities in Bangladesh. The college has been designed as a part of CHFB’s overall strategy to improve access to healthcare services in Bangladesh through affordable education and training programs.
The college's philosophy is built on the belief that every person has the right to access affordable health care services regardless of their economic status or geographic location. This is accomplished through its partnership with local communities and organizations that provide financial support for projects that benefit their local communities.
CBMCB offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in various disciplines including medicine, nursing, pharmacy and public health sciences. The college also operates several rural clinics where students are trained in clinical practice under supervision from experienced physicians who serve as mentors during their rotations at these facilities.
