Dr. Sirajul Islam Medical College (SIMC)

Gono Bishwabidyalaya (Gono University) is known as the “University with a difference”. The concept of the University was originated and established in 1994 in accordance with Bangladesh National Parliament Private University Act- 1992. It was established in 1998 by Gonoshasthaya Kendra (GK) Public Charitable Trust after a long chain of historical events. The GK (Public Health Centre) is one of the pioneering NGOs in Bangladesh. This Trust is awarded with many renowned awards such as The Independence Day Award (1978), Magsaysay Award (1985) and Right Livelihood Award (1992) from Swedish Parliament. The centre has earned a great value & name in the world’s popular NGOs within a very short span of time and with the same intention, GK marked the existence of Gono Bishwabidyalaya on 14th July 1998 in Bangladesh.

Gono University is accredited by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and also approved by the Ministry of Education, Government of Bangladesh. The University especially focuses on medical courses on health such as MBBS, BDS (Dental). These courses are approved by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) and Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. Not only this, University holds recognition from Medical Council of India (MCI) that allows Indian students to pursue or practice their medical career in India after completing MBBS from Bangladesh.

The University focuses on providing high-quality education to meet the demands of the modern age. The main objective of the University is to facilitate higher education at global and national level to foster the society and nation’s development through education & spreading awareness for education. Teachers at the University are highly-qualified and well-trained.

Accommodation

Gono University provides accommodation facilities to all its international students. It has separate hostels for boys and girls.

All the hostels are equipped with all the basic amenities such as TV, access to the internet, central heating and air-conditioning systems, water and gas supply. All hostel rooms are secured under the surveillance of cameras and security guards 24*7.

The hostel mess also provides hygienic & healthy Indian food, which is an added advantage for Indian students.

Student Life

The college supports a multicultural environment which makes the lives of student cheerful. The college gives the opportunity for students to get along with other students and understand each other’s culture, customs, etc. and develops a healthy relation.

All the students are encouraged to take part in various international seminars, projects, conferences, which will eventually help the students in gaining better experience and knowledge.

Library- Gono Bishwabidyalaya inherited 2 libraries (science and Arts faculty from Gonoshasthaya Kendra (GK). Gono Bishwabidyalaya of Bangladesh has a potentiality developed library having a considerable stock of original texts, books and references, journal, compact discs (CDs), etc. for each discipline.
