About the University
Before obtaining university status in 1993, Moscow Technological University started out as the All-Union Correspondence Power Institute in 1947, becoming the Moscow Institute of Radio Engineering 20 years later. Between 1967 and 2015, there were a series of mergers with other colleges before the university gained the name it has today.
The university is acknowledged for its training of highly qualified specialists for: telecommunications, information and computer technologies, automatic equipment, cybernetics, radio engineering and electronics, chemistry and biotechnologies. Among its staff are 21 fellow and corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Operating across seven local campuses, four other branches, and a system of 50 strategic partner enterprises, MIREA encompasses institutes including: information technologies and robotics; radio engineering and telecommunication systems; fine chemical technologies; complex security and special instrument engineering; part time, correspondence and distance training; instrument engineering and information technologies; international training; military department; physical training department; postgraduate study department; youth policy and international relations institute branches.
Moscow Technological University’s research operations are ordered around a network of research centres, scientific laboratories and students design offices.
These facilities include: Industrial Art Research Institute; Center of Integrated Circuits, Nanoelectronics Devices and Microsystems Design; Information Technologies and Automated Design Institute; Training and Scientific Institute of Informatics and Control Systems; Crisis and Emergency Situations Monitoring Center “Lidar”; Technological Business Center; Complex Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving Center; Laboratory of Lighting Engineering “LEDLAB”.
There is also the Research and Production Center of Laser and Optical Technologies; Modern Training Technologies and Projects Institute; Professional Administration and Complex Energy Efficiency Institute; Scientific and Educational Center; Center of Technological Support of Education; Scientific and Educational Center; Scientific and Engineering Center of System Analysis and Virtual Prototypingand Radio-Electronic Technologies Research Testing Center.
MIREA prides itself on international co-operation in the fields of research and has partnered with universities, scientific centres, and businesses in Germany, France, South Korea, Singapore, Finland, China and Japan among others. One such example is the Laboratorie International Associe, established in 1996 with the Electronic, Microelectronics and Nanotechnologies Institute and the Lille Higher Central School in France to look at critical and supercritical phenomena in functional electronics, acoustics, and fluidics.
In terms of international co-operation across all qualification levels, MIREA has more than 500 foreign students in attendance from more than 40 universities and across 30 countries. The university is a member of a number of international associations including: Top Industrial Managers for Europe Association (among T.I.M.E’s membership are 54 leading technical universities in Europe as well as in Brazil, China and Japan); Association of Sino-Russian Technical Universities; International Association of Universities; European Association of Research Managers and Administrators; University League of Collective Security Treaty Organization.
